Coglink Email is SIMPLE

  • Coglink is visually simple and clear (no hidden menus).

Coglink Email is SAFE

  • You decide who you want to email. Only those people can exchange email with you. There is no limit on the size of your correspondent list. You simply contact our HelpDesk to add new correspondents.
  • The program is naturally "junk email" resistant. You receive messages only from those on your designated correspondent list.
  • Your computer cannot be infected by viruses, spyware, etc. through the basic Coglink program. (Note: viruses and spyware can be transmitted in other ways. Be sure to protect your computer.)

Coglink is Easy to Learn

  • Coglink includes an automated training program that helps users learn all the basic skills for using the mouse, keyboarding, and email.
  • The training program is positive and designed with proven instructional principles.
  • Each lesson begins with a skills check and places the user at the appropriate level of training.
  • Each lesson provides plenty of demonstration and practice to insure users can successfully email before they begin corresponding with their email partners.
  • The program includes automated feedback but assumes that a support person will be available as needed.

Coglink is Customizable

Coglink has several advanced features that can be added to the "basic" program at a later time. It comes with an easy to use "Helper" link (that allows clinicians and care providers to instantly add, change, or remove advanced features.
Advanced features include:

  • Word prediction that helps users spell and write complete sentences.
  • Individualized templates that assist users in creating interesting email messages.
  • A "speak" button that allows users to hear incoming messages and to proofread their outgoing mail.
  • A "delete" button that lets users to delete messages without having to respond to them.
  • A "save" button that allows users to reply to messages at a later time.
  • A "sent mail" button that allows users to reread previously sent and received messages.
  • A carbon copy or "cc" function for sending a message to more than one person.
  • Capability of sending photo attachments.
  • Capability of printing email messages and attachments.

Coglink Case Study

"John's" story
John is a 57-year old man who suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in a workplace accident. He experiences visual and perceptual challenges as well as problems with working memory, attention, and executive functions. His procedural memory is intact. John wanted to use email to communicate with his adult son, his therapists, and a few friends.

Our solution was CogLink with adapted features that assist John in composing and reading email. The case manager at John's residential facility used the CogLink Helper to add a speak button that allows John to hear incoming messages while he reads the text. The dual input of speech and text helps John comprehend and retain brief messages. His case manager initially thought John might benefit from word prediction, but a brief trial showed that it was more distracting than helpful for John. His case manager was especially pleased when he learned that he could remove a feature like word prediction just by clicking a button on the Helper link. John and his case manager appreciate how they can work together to create an email application that gives him the greatest possible success. Now he emails his family each week and his therapist reports email therapy reminders have increased John's attendance at support group meetings.
